St Kitts & Nevis Activities, ashore and afloat

Yachting
Cruising and sailing yachts are becoming increasingly popular in St. Kitts & Nevis, and it's not hard to understand why.-The trade winds blowing off of the Atlantic provide all the power needed, and these lush volcanic islands offer visitors amazing vistas. There are many local boats available for hire, either crewed or self sail, by the day or week.

Golf
St. Kitts & Nevis' three golf courses include an 18-hole championship course on Nevis, plus an 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole course on St. Kitts

Four Seasons Resort Nevis
Charlestown, Nevis (869) 469-1111

This eighteen-hole course, designed by Robert Trent Jones II, hugs the side of Nevis Peak. It offers both professional, challenging terrain and spectacular panoramic views of St. Kitts.

Golden Rock Golf Club
Golden Rock, St. Kitts (869) 465-8103
A nine-hole course.

Royal St. Kitts Golf Course
Frigate Bay, St. Kitts  (869) 465-8339
Designed by five-time British Open Champion Peter Thompson, this eighteen-hole course stretches across the peninsula near Frigate Bay.

Hiking and Mountain Climbing
Both St. Kitts and Nevis have a good many trails leading into the mountains and rain forests. The local guides are especially knowledgeable and will instruct hikers on the medicinal uses of native plants, discuss the islands' history and culture, and identify local flora and fauna.

Horseback Riding
Can be arranged for you by most hotels. Trips on St. Kitts include beach riding or riding to the rain forest. For those  more interested in observing than participating, there are twelve races a year at the Indian Castle Race Track on Nevis

Snorkelling & Scuba Diving
Snorkelling and Scuba Diving are only recently becoming established on the islands, despite that fact that their coastal waters hide dozens of unexplored shipwrecks. (See diving page)

Sport Fishing
Although sport fishing has not traditionally numbered among the islands' favoured activities, careful conservation efforts have succeeded in attracting serious game fish to the waters surrounding these islands. The waters off these islands abound with fish, including tuna, wahoo, dorado, kingfish, barracuda, shark, snapper, and mahi mahi. The creation of man-made reefs by placing old car bodies, stripped of hazardous materials, has proven to be effective at increasing fish stocks and providing fisherman with known fishing grounds. Another technique used with increasing success is the building and anchoring of FADS (fish aggregating devices). These raft-like structures made from palm fronds and wooden pallets provide shade and shelter for small fish in specific areas. They are effective at attracting larger bill fish and mahi mahi, which feed on the smaller fish.
